Elise Anna Hughes is a Welsh footballer who plays as a forward for Women's Super League club Crystal Palace and the Welsh national team.
Football runs in Hughes' family—both her grandfather David and her father Peter were footballers.
Her family supports Everton, the same club where she began her professional football career.
At just 16 years old, Elise Hughes made her first-team debut for Everton in February 2018 against Arsenal.
She began her football journey in Connah’s Quay, kicking a ball around with her dad.
She has faced multiple ACL injuries, the latest in April 2024.
She won the Barclays Women’s Championship Golden Boot in the 2023–24 season, scoring 16 goals in 21 games before her injury.
She became involved in coaching through her local club, Connah’s Quay, where her brother plays. She was the first female staff member there, helping to shine a light on the women’s game in a traditionally male-dominated area.
Her involvement helped spark a surge in girls’ participation, with hundreds now training weekly and a women’s team and scholarship programme established.
Her favorite meal is cereal, and she loves all kinds of it. If she could eat cereal for every meal, she absolutely would.
Outside of football, she loves cooking.
Her most played artist at the moment is Taylor Swift, but she also enjoys discovering up-and-coming artists like Cat Burns.
Her football idol growing up was Tim Cahill, someone she admired for standing out in an Everton team that wasn’t always at its best.
Her best friend in football is Annabel Blanchard, who she’s known since they were kids playing against each other.
