Her two older brothers, Yanick and Michael, were already playing football at the local club and sparked her enthusiasm for the sport.
She graduated from school in Biel.

Her playing style has drawn comparisons with Kylian Mbappé.
Svenja Fölmli says that Glenn Meier is one of the coaches who has inspired her deeply—not just in football, but also on a personal level.
In 2021 Svenja completed a 4-year commercial apprenticeship - Sport KV.
2023 turned out to be a tough year for her. After returning from a months-long injury break in September, she was sidelined again in November with a cruciate ligament tear.
At the beginning of 2025, she made her long-awaited Bundesliga return for SC Freiburg and marked it in style with a stunning goal shortly after coming off the bench.
Svenja would love to play in the English league one day. She's an Arsenal supporter.
She enjoys reading books about personal development as a way to continue growing and evolving. She finds "Café am Rande der Welt" series of books quite enjoyable.
Svenja wouldn't say no to a coffee break.
She enjoys winter breaks - whether she’s skiing, riding a bobsleigh, or simply taking part in fun activities.
