Laia López de la Morena is a Spanish goalkeeper. She has represented Spain at U17, U19 and U20 level.

Laia started playing basketball as a child, following in her older sister’s footsteps. She was also named after Spanish legend Laia Palau and believes the sport helped develop the reflexes and spatial awareness she now uses in goal.

For several years, Laia balanced football, basketball and school before choosing to focus fully on football at the age of 14.

She originally began her football journey as a striker, but moved into goal after realising that scoring was not her greatest strength.

Real Madrid was part of her childhood long before she joined the club — Laia remembers buying the team’s shirts as a young fan and now describes it as “the club of my life.”

Laia balanced elite football with finishing school — during the 2025 U19 EURO, the Spanish national team captured her reaction as she checked the results of her EVAU university entrance exams.
