Mária Mikolajová is a Slovak professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Frauen-Bundesliga club Hamburger SV and the Slovakia national team.
She has played for clubs in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany, showcasing her international experience.
She scored a historic last-minute winner against Slavia Prague in 2022, giving an Austrian club its first-ever Champions League group stage victory.
In 2025, she was voted third-best player of the Austrian league season 2024/25, just behind her new HSV teammate Sophie Hillebrand.
She started playing football at just seven years old and instantly knew it was her passion.
She was the only girl in a sports class full of boys—and eventually earned their full respect after facing prejudice.
She made her debut for Slovakia’s senior team at 16 and has been a key player for them.
Mária believes women’s football should never be compared to men’s—because it shows “something completely different and beautiful.”
Her football idols include Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard and Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí.
As a teenager, her dream was to be a professional player and play for Arsenal.
Her nickname is "Majka".
She says her hidden talent is playing table tennis.
She says being named Slovakia’s Footballer of the Year twice is a huge honor and motivation for her career.
