Few saw this coming. On March 12, 2026, Guro Reiten announced through tears that she is leaving Chelsea, the club she has played for since 2019. The Norway international will now join NY Gotham FC, who begin the new NWSL season as defending champions.
It was not long ago that Reiten celebrated her 200th appearance for the Blues, the club where she won six league titles. In an emotional video, where she thanks the club she calls her family and its supporters, Reiten recalls the moment former head coach Emma Hayes first tried to convince her to join Chelsea.
At the time, the young Norwegian had doubts — whether she was good enough and whether she was ready to leave the familiar environment of the Norwegian Toppserien, where Reiten played for LSK Kvinner. In the end, she took the risk and has never regretted it. During her time in London she celebrated numerous successes, became a key part of the team and a fan favourite.
She also found a family within the club. Her Chelsea team-mate Erin Cuthbert is the godmother of Reiten’s recently born son, Felix.Â
She will therefore not be part of Chelsea’s squad for Sunday’s (March 15, 2026) League Cup final, where the Blues will be defending the trophy against Manchester United.
