Asisat Lamina Oshoala MON is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) club Bay FC and the Nigeria national team.
She is the only African female player to have won the CAF African Women's Footballer of the Year six times.
She became the first African woman nominated for the Ballon d'Or Féminin in 2022.
In 2023, she became the first African female footballer to gain over a million followers on Instagram.
She dropped out of school to pursue football, initially without the support of her parents.
She lived in doubt from her own parents until her U‑20 Golden Boot/Golden Ball performances in 2014 convinced them—now, “they know my game even before I tell them!”
Her grandmother’s support was pivotal when no one else believed, inspiring her to launch a foundation and academy for girls to combine education and sport.
As a teen in Lagos, she would sneak out barefoot to play street football, often lying to her mom.
She’s not just changing hairstyles—each brightly colored hue marks a moment in her life: pink for positivity, green for celebration, and orange "because she just feels like it".
She grew up the second-born in a 13-sibling, polygamous Muslim household.
She grew up admiring Luis Suárez for his ruthlessness in front of goal.
She is a practicing Muslim and sees her faith as a guide through life and career.
She listens to Afrobeats before a game.
