Jonna van de Velde is a Dutch midfielder who plays for AFC Ajax in the Eredivisie Vrouwen. She has represented the Netherlands across youth levels up to U23.
She used to play football constantly during school breaks and after school, and she encourages younger players to play lots of football “on local pitches.”
A hearing impairment was discovered when she was five, and she now plays football with two hearing aids.
She initially refused to wear her hearing aids during football and couldn’t hear coaches when they shouted instructions from nearby.
She doesn’t have one specific person who motivates her, but watching Ajax 1 on TV can instantly make her want to train and play.
She’s said she wakes up thinking how “cool” it is to be an Ajax player—and that playing for Ajax is literally her job.
