Julia Helena Maria Karlernäs is a Swedish professional football midfielder who plays for IFK Norrköping in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan. A veteran of the women’s game, she has played in Sweden’s top flight for multiple clubs and won the Damallsvenskan title in 2018 with Piteå IF.
While at Piteå IF, she scored 11 goals from midfield in 2018 to help the club win the Damallsvenskan title, earning league MVP honours that season.
She played in Spain with Sevilla FC and in Italy with FC Como Women before returning to Sweden in 2025.
Karlernäs began her senior career with Mallbackens IF in 2009 after progressing from youth club Västanvik.
Karlernäs holds a university degree from her time in the US and has said education was always important alongside football.
Julia grew up in Torsby, Värmland, a small town close to the Norwegian border, and has often spoken about the strong community support she felt playing football there.
