Saki Kumagai is a Japanese footballer who plays for AS Roma and captains the Japan national team. She plays as a defensive midfielder or central defender.
She is one of the most successful East Asian footballer, of any gender, at club and international level.
She began her senior career in her native Japan with Urawa Reds. Then she moved to Europe and joined FFC Frankfurt, Olympique Lyonnais and Bayern Munich.
She has over 100 caps for Japan women's national team. She made her senior international debut for Japan in 2008 at the age of 17. She was named captain of the national team in January 2017.
