Sophie Whitehouse

Whitehouse was only three months old when her family left England for East Africa, spending four years in Kenya before moving to Tanzania.

With few opportunities for girls’ football in East Africa, Whitehouse played on a boys’ team before eventually joining a mixed side.

Her family moved to Washington, D.C. when she was nine, after her mother took a role with the World Bank.

One of her tattoos is written in her sister’s handwriting and shows the coordinates of the family home.

Playing for Ireland was a long-held ambition for Whitehouse, whose mother is Irish.
