Lena Oberdorf on her comeback: I have a huge desire to play again

After over a year sidelined by a serious knee injury, Bayern Munich’s Lena Oberdorf is back and brimming with determination. In her first start in 482 days, she scored a brace in a dominant 3–0 win over RB Leipzig, proving she’s well on her way to full fitness.

  • After over a year out due to injury, Oberdorf made her first full start for FC Bayern in the Bundesliga, scoring a brace in a 3-0 win over Leipzig. She describes being about 80% fit and still feeling slight breathlessness, but having fun and enjoying her comeback.
  • Oberdorf says she has “extrem viel Lust” (huge desire) to play again for Germany. She wants to re-train with the national squad and soak up the atmosphere, but acknowledges that decisions about her involvement will be made by the national coach, Christian Wück.
  • Oberdorf says she hasn’t had much conversation yet with coach Christian Wück, suggesting he may prefer to let her enjoy her return first before pushing for national team duties. Although excited, she is realistic: she isn’t yet fully back to standard, and emphasizes the need for more matches/training to rebuild full match fitness.
