After the winter break, several European leagues are returning, including the most watched one, the English WSL. Saturday will offer only one, but perhaps the most interesting match. Arsenal will host Manchester United at home at the Emirates. Their previous match offered several exciting moments on both sides, but ended in a goalless 0-0 draw.
Last season, Manchester United and Arsenal ended the season with a match at Emirates Stadium, but now they are kicking off the spring season with the same fixture. The question remains whether both clubs will introduce their new signings.
Manchester United has been more active in this regard, strengthening its defense with Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist and its attack with a valuable addition from Bayern Munich, Lea Schüller.
Arsenal has only strengthened its right-back position with Smilla Holmberg, who has already joined the rest of the team in training and may even make a few minutes' appearance in front of the fans. Otherwise, the club is struggling with gaps in goal: first-choice goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar is still injured, so Anneke Borbe will likely start in goal, with Naomi Wiliams, who has returned from her loan spell at Bristol City, as her backup.
Chloe Kelly, who is still recovering from injury, and midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross, who left London for family reasons and is in her native Australia with her mother, who has been diagnosed with bile duct cancer, will also not be playing. United will be without Celin Bizet, who is currently on maternity leave. One of the club's icons, Ella Toone, is also out of action due to injury.
Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m. CET. You can watch the live broadcast on YouTube Women's Super League.
