Alyssa Paola Thompson is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Chelsea and the United States women's national team.
She became the first high school player ever to be selected #1 overall in the NWSL Draft (2023).
Angel City FC traded $450,000, the most expensive deal in NWSL history at the time, to get her.
Alyssa ran the 100m in 11.74 seconds in 2022 — one of the fastest high school times in California that year.
She is of African-American, Filipino and Peruvian descent.
She he has two younger sisters, Gisele and Zoe. Gisele also plays for Angel City FC.
In May 2022, Alyssa and her sister Gisele became the first high school athletes to sign a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal with Nike.
She featured in the Netflix documentary series "Under Pressure," which provides an inside look at the USWNT during their 2023 World Cup campaign.
Her favorite Peruvian dish made by her grandmother is papa a la huancaína—potatoes and eggs in a creamy yellow sauce.
She enjoys coloring and painting, a hobby she picked up more during COVID, often painting with her sisters.
Growing up, Alyssa had posters of Kristen Press and Julie Ertz on her wall.
