Rafaela Borggräfe is a German footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Liverpool.
Rafa is studying Sport Sciences (movement & health) at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg.
Her passion outside of football is tennis.
Rafa loves to laugh and talk a lot — something she considers (as a goalkeeper) one of her biggest strengths in football as well.
Rafa recently tried surfing.
She came up through SC Freiburg’s academy (joined in 2014), leaving the club in 2025 after more than 10 years.
Being a goalkeeper wasn’t her first choice. Until 2013, she played as a field player. She only “sacrificed” herself for the position when her team didn’t have a keeper. After that she decided to stay in the goal permanently.
Rafa has a tattoo on her arm saying "believe in yourself".
Rafaela has been sporty since childhood. Her dad played both football and tennis with her early on, later letting her choose which path to follow.
She has an older brother. When they were younger they used to play football together.
Her idol is Nadine Angerer, former German goalkeeper.
From men's football her idol is Mark Flekken who is a Dutch professional goalkeeper and used to play for SC Freiburg.
