Son Hwa-Yeon is a South Korean professional footballer who plays as a forward for AIK in Sweden’s top division, the Damallsvenskan and the South Korea national team.
Son was born in Gwangju, South Korea.
Son made a spectacular senior international debut on June 4, 2016, scoring two goals in a 5–0 win over Myanmar.
She was the second overall pick in the 2018 WK League Draft, selected by Changnyeong WFC.
Son has represented South Korea at the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women's World Cups.
Before moving to Europe, she played for Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels, one of the most successful clubs in South Korean women's football history.
On January 11, 2026, AIK announced that they and Son had reached a mutual agreement to break her contract following an injury that sidelined her for nearly a year.
She attended Korea University as part of her youth development.
