June is Pride Month, and few areas of sport embrace queer visibility as openly as women’s football. Compared to the men’s game, female footballers are far more likely to be openly LGBTQ+, while clubs themselves often actively speak about inclusivity and make it clear that everyone is welcome at their matches, regardless of identity.
Kerstin Casparij has had a successful time recently. Her team Manchester City tops the WSL table, and she herself was named Player of the Month for November. Fans adore her not only for her skills on the pitch, but also for her longstanding and ongoing support of LGBTQ rights.

In the 2024/25 season, she recorded the joint-most clean sheets in the WSL alongside Hannah Hampton. Despite being one of the league’s top goalkeepers, Phallon Tullis-Joyce is also dedicated to something far deeper. A trained marine biologist, she uses her social media platforms to educate audiences about the marine world and its importance.
Women's football is not afraid to raise important social issues. Proof of this can be seen in the June event organized by the Angel City women's soccer team, who decided to speak out about the protests that were sweeping Los Angeles, where the club is based.Â
