Her transfer to Orlando Pride went down in history as the most expensive transfer in women's soccer at the time. She was also the first Mexican player (male or female) to be valued at over a million dollars.
The first time she saw women’s football on TV was in 2007, during the Women’s World Cup final between Brazil and Germany, sparking her realization that she could pursue football as a career.
As of 2025, FIFA will introduce a new award to honour her legendary achievements - the best goal scored in women’s football will receive the ‘Marta Award’.
She sneaked back into Germany on a train to collect her belongings. Luckily, a customs officer, who was a fan of the team she played for, allowed her to leave without any further issues.
Initially, Angelina was only an alternate player for Brazil’s Olympic squad but ended up captaining the team at 2024 Paris Olympics when Marta was suspended.
At 21, Marta's performance in the Pan American Games, where she led Brazil to a victory over the U.S. U20s in front of 68,000 spectators, earned her the nickname "Pele in skirts," and she was personally congratulated by the late Pele himself.
She always wears lipstick during games. After wearing bright red lipstick during a World Cup game, she said: "I tried it and I think it was good. The colour is of blood, because we had to leave blood on the pitch. Now I'm going to use it in every game."
Sebastian Tony Hines is an English professional association football coach and former player who is the current (since 2022) head coach of the Orlando Pride.
