Carolina Ferrera and Elena Vizuete: The Barça duo making their mark at the U17 World Cup
They both made their Barcelona Femení first-team debuts on the same day. Now Carolina Ferrera and Elena Vizuete showed their chemistry on the international stage, emerging as two of Spain's brightest young talents. Even though Spain is out of the competetion now, we are pretty sure that this is not the last time you hear about them.
Spain's impressive start to the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup has put two Barcelona Femení youngsters firmly in the spotlight. Carolina Ferrera and Elena Vizuete were both on the scoresheet in Spain's 2:0 opening victory over Mexico, demonstrating why they are regarded as two of the most promising players coming through the Catalan club's academy.
The midfield duo already know each other well from Barcelona, and their understanding was evident against Mexico. Vizuete created Spain's opening goal after dribbling past two defenders and unleashing a long-range effort. The Mexican goalkeeper could only parry the shot, allowing Ferrera to react quickest and turn home the rebound.
In the second half, Vizuete took centre stage herself. Collecting possession in midfield, she beat several opponents before curling a left-footed effort into the corner from distance to double Spain's lead. Her performance earned her the Player of the Match award.

Speaking afterwards, Vizuete said she was "enjoying the moment to the full" and expressed her happiness at the team's performance.
Ferrera was equally impressed by her teammate, praising her confidence despite her young age. "Despite her young age, she shows an impressive level of self-confidence," she told FIFA.
Spain U17 head coach Mila Martínez also singled out Vizuete for praise. "She's incredible. She's a very talented player whom we rate very highly," Martínez said.
Both players are among the youngest members of Spain's squad, making their contributions all the more impressive. "We are proud that these new generations bring such quality and commitment to the Spanish national team," Martínez added.
From La Masia to the first team together
Ferrera and Vizuete's partnership extends well beyond international football. Both are emerging talents in Barcelona's youth system, and their friendship off the pitch has developed alongside their footballing careers.
They even shared one of their biggest milestones. On 31 August 2026, both players made their senior Barcelona debuts in the Liga F match against Costa Adeje Tenerife.
For Vizuete, the occasion was particularly remarkable. Although registered with Barcelona's C team, she made her first-team debut before even appearing for the reserves. The 16-year-old joined Barcelona's academy at the age of nine and has steadily progressed through the club's youth ranks, establishing herself as one of its most exciting prospects.
Barcelona head coach Pere Romeu urged patience following the debuts of the two youngsters, who were given their opportunities alongside other academy graduates amid injuries and absences caused by the U20 World Cup.
"The aim is for them to continue supporting us, and we must all be very patient with these players because they are still in the early stages of their first-team careers, and we need to work together to develop them into great footballers," Romeu explained.
Carolina Ferrera's journey from Gran Canaria to Barcelona
While Vizuete has spent much of her childhood at La Masia, Ferrera followed a different path to Barcelona. Born in Gran Canaria, she began playing football at just two years old. By the age of five, she was registered with Arucas Club de Fútbol in her hometown.
After developing her skills at several clubs, Ferrera attracted Barcelona's attention. In January 2026, the Catalan club officially announced her signing on a three-year deal, with the midfielder initially joining the reserve team.
Despite having only recently arrived, Ferrera was included in Barcelona's first-team pre-season training camp in Andorra. Just weeks later, she made her senior debut alongside Vizuete at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
Ferrera has already scored her first senior goal for Barcelona against Alavés and made her UEFA Women's Champions League debut. Now, the two midfielders are making their mark together on the international stage.
From their shared Barcelona debut to combining for Spain's opening goal against Mexico, Ferrera and Vizuete have already experienced some significant moments side by side.
