Manchester City Women have announced the signing of United States international midfielder Sam Coffey on a contract running until summer 2029.
- Coffey joins City from the Portland Thorns FC of the NWSL, where she was club captain and a central figure in midfield.
- At Portland, when she was since 2022, Coffey helped the team reach the play off semi-finals and earned selection in the NWSL Best XI for the third time in four seasons.
- She is also a regular starter for the United States women’s national team, approaching 50 senior caps, and played a key role in the USA’s 2024 Olympic gold medal.
- This move marks Coffey’s first professional season outside the United States, as she takes on a new challenge WSL with City, who currently sit top of the league, six points ahead of Chelsea.Â
The transfer confirmed the speculation that had been circulating after Coffey was seen at Manchester City’s stadium a few days ago.
