Samantha Grace Coffey is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defensive midfielder for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League, which she captains, and the United States national team.
She comes from a family deeply rooted in journalism. Her father, Wayne Coffey, is a former sports reporter and author; her mother, Denise Willi, wrote for Scholastic; her brother, Sean Coffey, is a news anchor; and her sister, Alex Coffey, is a feature writer.
She majored in print journalism and minored in sociology at Penn State University, following her passion for writing.
