Samantha Meza is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Seattle Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She played college soccer for the North Carolina Tar Heels and was drafted by the Reign in the 2024 NWSL Draft.
She began playing soccer at the age of three in a boys' team.
She is of Mexican descent and grew up in Balch Springs, Texas.
She has won CONCACAF championships with the U.S. national teams at the U-15, U-17, and U-20 levels.
She started playing soccer to help overcome her childhood shyness.
She didn’t know that professional women’s soccer or the U.S. women’s national team existed when she first started playing.
She played alongside stars like Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith, and Naomi Girma at the 2020 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
She hopes to inspire young Latina girls, saying she didn’t grow up with many pros who looked like her.
Her mother, Alma Santos, played soccer into adulthood and was instrumental in Sam's early development.
