Klára Cahynová made Czech football history on March 7, 2026, earning her 126th competitive international cap — a milestone that sees her surpass the legendary Petr Čech.
Cahynová first wore the Czech national team shirt in 2011, when she was still playing for Slovácko. Now the only Czech female player competing in Spain’s top flight, she regularly features for Real Sociedad.
Her appearance in the match against Albania marked a historic moment, as it saw her surpass Lucie Martínková’s previous record of 125 international caps. Legendary Czech goalkeeper Petr Čech, for comparison, made 124 appearances for the national team.
In 2023, she was named Czech Footballer of the Year, further underlining her importance to the national team. Following the retirement of Petra Bertholdová, Cahynová also took over the captain’s armband.
One milestone, however, still eludes her: appearing at a major international tournament. The Czech Republic have repeatedly fallen at the play-off stage, despite coming close to qualifying for the European Championship on several occasions.
