Back in the fall, there was speculation that Smilla Holmberg, a 19-year-old Swedish star, would leave Hammarby, where she grew up as a player, to join Arsenal. On January 5, she became the club's first winter signing.

  • Holmberg was born in Stockholm, began playing football at age 7, and progressed through the Hammarby academy, making her senior debut at just 15.
  • She made 96 appearances for Hammarby, scored 10 goals, and helped the club win the Swedish league title (Damallsvenskan) in 2023. She also played Champions league with Hammarby in 2024/25 season.
  • Holmberg has been capped by the Sweden national team, featuring at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 where she scored against Germany.
  • Primarily a right-back, she is regarded as one of Sweden’s most promising young talents, known for her pace, defensive awareness, and attacking contributions from wide areas.
