Leicester enter the new season as a brand new club with nine new players

Leicester City will have an interesting start to the WSL season. Nine new players have joined the club, while seven are leaving. There is also a change in the management team.

  • Leicester City Women confirmed contract extensions for nine players, led by club captain Janice Cayman, as part of preparations to improve on last season’s 10th-place WSL finish.
  • Alongside Cayman, the new deals include first-team regulars Janina Leitzig, Missy Goodwin, Julie Thibaud, Sam Tierney, Hannah Cain, and Shannon O’Brien. Young talents Simone Sherwood and Nelly Las also secured fresh terms.
  • Long-serving defender Sophie Howard leaves after five years and 122 appearances. Other confirmed departures include Saori Takarada (to Cerezo Osaka Sakai), Yuka Momiki (to Everton), Lena Petermann (to Werder Bremen), CJ Bott, Courtney Nevin, and Deanne Rose.
  • Lee Billiard has been named to the newly created role, joining from Aston Villa, where he served as Head of Women’s Football. He brings further experience from previous positions at Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, and the NWSL in the US.
