Sweden's Tony Gustavsson announced his first nomination

The new coach of the Swedish national team, Tony Gustavsson, has announced his first squad selection. It includes both veterans and newcomers.

  • Kosovare Asllani has been named in Sweden’s squad for the Nations League semifinal matches against Spain, despite previous uncertainty about her national team future. Before the Euro, which took place in July this year, she said that it would be her last international tournament.
  • Veteran defender Linda Sembrant, who had announced plans to retire from the national team after the summer’s European Championship, is also included in the squad.
  • Among the newcomers is Felicia Schröder, who plays for BK Häcken. Rosa Kafaji and Smilla Holmberg, who made her debut in May this year, are also returning to the national team.
  • Head coach Tony Gustavsson expressed enthusiasm that both players agreed to join, noting Asllani’s form and Sembrant’s “continuity and stability” as key assets.
  • Ellen Wangerheim, on the other hand, did not receive an invitation and will play for the U23 team.
  • The matches vs. Spain are scheduled for 24 October and 28 October.
