Esther González Rodríguez is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a striker for National Women's Soccer League club NJ/NY Gotham FC and the Spain national team. She previously played for Atlético Málaga, Sporting de Huelva, Atlético de Madrid, and Real Madrid.
She left Real Madrid as the club’s all-time top scorer, netting 39 goals in 77 appearances.
She signed with Gotham FC in August 2023 and quickly became a star, scoring two goals in her first start.
In the 2023 NWSL Championship Game, she scored the game-winning goal, helping Gotham win their first league title in history.
On October 5, 2024, Esther recorded the fastest three goal contributions in NWSL history—two goals and one assist in 4 minutes and 20 seconds!
At 15, traveled 500 km twice a week with her father for training sessions, demonstrating early dedication to football.
She balanced her early career with university studies in physiotherapy.
Off the field, Esther is a private individual, but she openly shares her life with her partner, Estefania Cruz, on social media. They are both advocates for LGBTQ+ rights, and Esther’s openness about her relationship has made her a role model for many in the community.
Her football role models are Spanish stars Sonia Bermúdez and Maider Castillo, admired for their professionalism and longevity.
She didn’t even know women’s football existed when she started playing in her small town. She was shy at first but joined her school team because the boys kept asking her to play striker.
She co-founded a physiotherapy center called Goldness.
