Mwanalima Adam Jereko, known simply as Jereko, is a Kenyan professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Kansas City Current of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and captains the Kenya national team.
She grew up in the remote area of Kilindini, a coastal suburb of Mombasa, Kenya.
She first played football in the dusty streets of Kilindini with her childhood friends.
She faced gender stereotypes and was often told that football was not for girls.
At times, she played barefoot because she could not afford proper football boots.
She uses her platform to inspire girls from underprivileged areas like Kilindini to pursue their dreams and advocates for better infrastructure, equipment, and support for young female footballers in rural Kenya.
She helped lead Kenya to its first CECAFA Womenâs Championship finals in 2019.
She earned the nickname âDogoâ early in her career for her speed and agility.
In 2018, she joined Thika Queens FC, where she became the Kenyan Premier Leagueâs top scorer in 2021.
