Rachel Ann Daly is an English professional footballer who plays predominantly as a striker for Aston Villa in the FA Women's Super League.
Rachel Daly's football journey began at a very young age. She comes from a football family and would always kick a ball around with other siblings when she was watching her brother and her dad's games for Killinghall Nomads.
She started playing for Killinghall Nomads, being an only girl in a boys' team. She was initially mistaken for a boy due to her short hair.
Her skills started developing faster when she joined Leeds United's girls' centre of excellence: "Everyone in my family was a massive Leeds United fan, so when I was asked to join their girls’ centre of excellence, it was extra special for me because it was the team I grew up watching. I was just so proud to play for them at that age, it was such a big deal and at this stage, I was playing for three different teams and it was all good practise."
She moved to the US for college and despite playing just three years for the St. John's University Red Storm, she set the school's career records for both goals (50) and points (111).
She named Love Island as her favorite TV show.
Her biggest phobia are snakes.
Her pre-match ritual is to have four Weetabix with four sugars.
She has a dog named Dexi.
She has very strong bond with her England teammate Millie Bright, even getting matching tattoos ahead of the 2023 World Cup: "It took us ages to find the right one and we ended up going with a half on our hands because she is the other half of me, my life is not complete without her."
She is engaged to her Aston Villa teammate Sarah Mayling.
Alessia Russo and Ella Toone will no longer be the only Lionesses with their own podcast. Now Chelsea captain Millie Bright and Aston Villa player Rachel Daly have joined the company of female footballers with a podcast.
The title will be The Rest is football: Daly Brightness, as a pun on their surnames. According to the players, and especially the very good friends, it will be all about relaxed chat about football and everything around it.
Aston Villa have staged a handful of their matches at Villa Park in recent seasons with some healthy crowds having been recorded. The club are investing heavily in the growth of their women’s team and Aston Villa have now revealed that the next step is to play all 11 of their home league matches at their main stadium. All other fixtures will continue to be played at The Poundland Bescot Stadium in Walsall. Following this morning’s announcement, Aston Villa’s Head of Women’s Football, Lee Billiard said “This is another big step forward and represents a continuation of the progress of our women’s programme at Aston Villa.“Through the support and hard work of many departments across the football club, we have been able to show Villa Park is a commercially viable venue for us. “In the times we have played there, especially over the last couple of seasons, it has always created a special matchday experience for everyone involved. “Players and staff collectively share an excitement to call Villa Park our primary ground from 2024/2025 onwards. “Our relationship with Walsall Football Club continues as Poundland Bescot Stadium will be our secondary venue.” The 2024/2025 Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures will be announced in due course.
