Hattrick for Bonmatí! Spanish superstar won third Ballon d'Or award in a row

This is a golden hat trick for the 27-year-old Catalan midfielder. She was named the best female footballer in 2023 and 2024. Her fellow spanish Mariona Caldentey came in second place. English player Alessia Russo rounds out the top three best female footballers. Both play for London's Arsenal, which was named club of the year in the women's category.

Sarina Wiegman, coach of the England national team, was named best female coach. Under her leadership, the Lionesses defended their European Championship title in July this year. 

This year's 69th competition was special in that, for the first time, the same number of women's and men's categories were announced. The Gerda Müller Trophy for the best striker went to Ewa Pajor from Barcelona, Poland, who scored 25 goals last season and became the top scorer in the Spanish league.

The Raymond Kopa Trophy for players under 21 was won by Vicky López from Barcelona. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her late mother.
