Merci fans! Switzerland bids farewell to the tournament after a big fight with Spain

Home country Switzerland managed to keep Spain at bay for the entire first half. Despite missing two penalties, Spain reached the semi-finals for the first time since 1997 thanks to goals from Athenea and Claudia Pina in second half. 

• Athenea del Castillo broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, followed five minutes later by a long-range strike from Clàudia Pina.
• Mariona Caldentey and Alexia Putellas both failed to convert spot-kicks, the latter spectacularly saved by Swiss keeper Livia Peng - Chelsea´s new signing.
• Head coach Montse Tomé praised the historic achievement and emphasized the need for continued progression as Spain prepare for a major semi-final clash. They will play against the winner of France/Germany match.
