Courtney Elizabeth Brosnan is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Women's Super League club Everton. Born in the United States, she represents the Republic of Ireland at international level.
Born in the USA and of Irish descent, she was available to represent the Republic of Ireland or the USA, but ultimately chose to represent Ireland.
She feels representing Ireland helps her connecting to her family and her roots.
She began her career at the college club Syracuse Orange. At the end of her time at Syracuse, Brosnan was the program’s all-time saves leader (344) and 8 shutouts ranked third on the all-time list.
She majored in Biology at Syracuse University and worked as an intern in the IVF and embryology research lab at Saint Barnabas Hospital.
She has two sisters.
To help build her confidence and get in the zone before a game, she uses visualization and also looks at clips of her saves from previous games.
She started playing at the age of five in a local team.
She did a lot of sports as a kid, such as baseball, basketball or swimming.
She liked basketball as much as football and believes it played a role in becoming a goalkeeper because it's where she developed hand-eye coordination.
Everton stun Chelsea and end their 34-match WSL unbeaten streak with a 1–0 win in London. In a dramatic twist, Everton Women pulled off a shock 1–0 victory away at Chelsea Women, handing the champions their first league defeat since May 2024. The deciding goal came early — Honoka Hayashi tapped home from a perfect cross by Toni Payne — and despite Chelsea piling on the pressure with 18 corners and relentless attacking, Everton’s defence, marshalled by keeper Courtney Brosnan, held firm till the final whistle.
