Desiree van Lunteren is a Dutch midfielder and defender who represented the Netherlands at senior international level and won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 while also finishing runner-up at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, playing professionally in the Netherlands and Germany.

She made her senior professional debut with AZ Alkmaar in 2009 as a teenager in the Dutch women’s league.

Van Lunteren played a major role in the rise of AFC Ajax Women, making over 180 appearances and scoring 70+ goals across all competitions for the club.

She has played in multiple positions during her career, including right back and central midfield.

She was part of the Netherlands squad that won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 on home soil.

Two years later, she also helped the Dutch national team reach the final of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

She became a mother in 2020 and has a son named Daan, and has spoken about balancing professional football with family life.
