Jaedyn Reese Shaw is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward or attacking midfielder for the North Carolina Courage of the National Women's Soccer League and the United States national team.
Beyond soccer, she values quality time—especially with her family and friends, who have had a tremendous impact on her career. “There was a point where we moved into a one-bedroom apartment so that we could have extra money to fund all of my opportunities,” Shaw says.
She didn’t attend high school or college in the traditional sense. Instead, she grew up very independent, dedicating everything to her football journey. “I knew that my journey was going to be different. Everything I was doing was to get to the next level. And it cost me a lot.”
She is the first Vietnamese American to play for the U.S. Women’s National Team and the first to score for the USWNT.
She played only futsal until the age of 12, which helped her develop exceptional ball control, quick thinking, and creativity on the field.
She is also the youngest player ever to score in her first three professional matches in the NWSL.
She shares a strong connection with teammate Alex Morgan, who also serves as a mentor.
deeply admires Brazilian football legend Marta and hopes to emulate the iconic No. 10 one day. She also dreams of dribbling like Neymar and passing like Kevin De Bruyne.
She’s the first player to score in her first 4 starts with the USWNT, and later extended it to 5.
She often switched clubs growing up just to be allowed to train with boys.
She graduated high school in 2022 and turned pro before ever playing a college game, forgoing her commitment to UNC.
She love bowling, trying new restaurants, and just hanging out together with her family.
