Mariam Abdulai Toloba is a Belgian international striker for FC Nantes in the French Première Ligue and the Belgium women’s national team.
She is of mixed heritage, with a Belgian mother and Ghanaian father.
She grew up in a football-mad family with three brothers who also played the game.
She started out playing school and local football before joining Gent’s academy at 13.
She made her Belgian top-flight debut for Gent as a 15-year-old.
She has also represented Belgium in women’s futsal, scoring in all three group matches of the 2019 UEFA Futsal Euro qualifiers.
In 2015, as a 15-year-old, Toloba’s spectacular strike was nominated for the European Goal of the Year award, listed in club coverage as being on a shortlist featuring Lionel Messi and her idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
In 2020 she was appointed assistant coach at Besiktas Gent’s women’s futsal team.
