Sandra Paños García-Villamil is a Spanish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. She has represented Spain at senior international level.
Before focusing fully on football, she also played futsal, which helped develop her reflexes and footwork as a goalkeeper.
Paños has spoken about Iker Casillas as one of her early inspirations growing up.
She became a goalkeeper because her futsal team had an empty spot in goal.
She comes from a sporting family: her mother, Gema, competed in athletics and became a Spanish champion, while her father Luis played for Hércules in the 1980s.
Her first Christmas away from her family came after moving to Mexico with Club América.
She would like to work with young goalkeepers when her playing career ends.
She left Barcelona after nine seasons and 23 trophies.
She first fell for football after literally leaving karate behind and sneaking over to a football pitch when she was still a child.
At school, she was firmly “anti-pink” because she felt that color did not belong in football.
She was the kid who only agreed to help carry the heaviest grocery bags home because she liked feeling strong.
Her dog Milo is such a big part of her routine that she has done video calls with him while away for matches.
