Five Lionesses recognised in King's New Year Honours list

Five Lionesses and head coach Sarina Wiegman will receive special honors from King Charles III in recognition of their outstanding achievement at the European Championship in July.
England women’s national team head coach Sarina Wiegman was awarded an honorary damehood in the 2026 King’s New Year Honours list for her leadership after guiding the Lionesses to back-to-back UEFA Women’s European Championship titles in 2022 and 2025.
Captain Leah Williamson was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) as part of the honours, recognising her role in England’s success on the international stage.
The honours highlight the Lionesses’ historic year, reflecting their dramatic European Championship win and growing influence in women’s sport across the UK.
Former football pioneer Kerry Davis was also recognised with an MBE for her contribution to the women’s game over many years.
