Montse Tomé to step down as Spain women's coach, replaced by Sonia Bermúdez

According to MARCA, fter leading Spain’s national women’s team through a historic Euro 2025 final, Montse Tomé is reportedly stepping down when her contract ends on August 31. The new head coach will be Sonia Bermúdez.

  • Tomé (43) will leave when her contract expires on 31 August 2025, ending her tenure as Spain’s first-ever female head coach, a role she took in September 2023 after serving as Jorge Vilda’s assistant until his dismissal in the wake of the Luis Rubiales scandal.
  • Under Tomé’s leadership, Spain won the inaugural Women’s Nations League in February 2024 but finished runners-up at Euro 2025 after losing to England on penalties on 27 July.
  • Sonia Bermúdez (40) steps up from coaching Spain’s U23 team to take charge of the senior squad.
  • A decorated former player, Bermúdez won nine league titles with Rayo Vallecano, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, and Levante, earning 61 caps for Spain and captaining the side at the 2015 World Cup, where La Roja finished bottom of their group.
