North Carolina Courage announced department of two players

The season is already over for North Carolina Courage, as the team failed to make the playoffs. The club has therefore already said goodbye to goalkeeper Casey Murphy and defender Kaleigh Kurtz.

  • Defender Kaleigh Kurtz will depart North Carolina Courage as a free agent after eight seasons with the club, during which she won three NWSL Shields, two championships and two Challenge Cups, and set the league record for most consecutive minutes played.
  • Goalkeeper Casey Murphy is also leaving the Courage as a free agent; during her time there she made 108 appearances, recorded 36 clean sheets and made 348 saves.
  • Reports indicate Casey Murphy is expected to join the expansion franchise Boston Legacy according to sources.
  • For the Courage, the exit of two long-standing stalwarts (Kurtz and Murphy) marks the end of an era, while for the Current and other clubs, the movement highlights players’ agency and expanding opportunities across the league.
