Swedish defender Ilestedt is heading to Eintracht Frankfurt

In addition to Rebecka Blomqvist, German club Eintracht Frankfurt has announced the signing of their second Swedish player, defender Amanda Ilestedt from Arsenal.

  • The 32-year-old Swedish international centre-back joins Eintracht Frankfurt after leaving Arsenal, marking a return to Germany following spells with Turbine Potsdam and Bayern Munich.
  • Ilestedt began at FC RosengĂĄrd, where she won multiple Damallsvenskan titles, then played in Germany for Turbine Potsdam and Bayern (winning the 2020–21 Bundesliga). In 2021, she moved to Paris Saint-Germain, then signed for Arsenal in June 2023.
  • After giving birth to her daughter Mila in September 2024, Ilestedt made a comeback in January 2025 and featured for Sweden at Euro 2025—even playing a full match in the 3:0 win over Poland.
  • Ilestedt expressed excitement about joining Frankfurt, citing the club’s ambition both domestically and in European play. She described it as “the right place for this stage of my career.”
  • Frankfurt finished third in the Frauen-Bundesliga in 2024–25. Signing a defender of Ilestedt’s calibre underlines their intent to compete at the highest levels.
