Amy Joan Irene Sayer is an Australian international midfielder known for her vision, technical skill and versatility on the ball. She joined Swedish giants Malmö FF in January 2026 after several seasons in the Damallsvenskan and represents the Australia national team, the Matildas.
Sayer was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, where she began playing football as a child at local club Northbridge FC.
Sayer graduated early from Stanford, managing a full academic load while pursuing her professional football career, a rare achievement for an elite athlete.
She has Chinese heritage on her mother’s side and has spoken about how her multicultural background shaped her identity.
Sayer made her senior national team debut for Australia at just 16 years old in 2018, a testament to her early promise.
She suffered a ruptured ACL in 2024, which ruled her out of the Paris Olympic campaign, but she made a strong comeback the following year.
Sayer played multiple sports in her youth, including high jump, long jump and touch football, before focusing solely on soccer.
