Chaiane Locatelli, commonly known as Chai, is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a left-back and midfielder. She has represented Brazil at the youth international level.
Chaiane was born in Garibaldi, Rio Grande do Sul, and began her sports career by playing futsal locally.
Growing up, football was her absolute favorite game, and because there were no girls' teams in her hometown at the time, she practiced and played on the boys' teams.
She is the twin sister of fellow professional footballer Natane Locatelli, and the two played side-by-side on the same teams for the vast majority of their careers.
At just 14 years old, she and her sister boldly moved to the state capital of Porto Alegre to play for the local club's Under-17 youth squad.
Soon after, she joined AvaĆ Kindermann at age 15, where she quickly stood out and earned her first call-up to the Brazilian Under-17 National Team.
She and her twin sister share an Instagram account dedicated to physiotherapy, as they both pursued degrees in the field to prepare for life after football.
In 2017, she represented Brazil at the Summer Universiade in Taipei, proudly helping the university national team win the gold medal.
The 2020 season marked a major life transition for her, as her transfer to Botafogo represented the very first time she played for a different club than her twin sister.
