Daniela Montoya Quiroz is a Colombian footballer who plays as a midfielder. She has represented Colombia women's national football team at senior level, including at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games.
She started her football journey in the municipality of Sabaneta, Antioquia, playing for Visión 2000.
Before focusing fully on football, she also played futsal and indoor football.
Montoya has played professionally in Colombia, Spain, Bahrain and Brazil.
Her first experience abroad came with Spanish futsal club CD Burela FS in 2013.
She later returned to Spain to play for Levante UD Femenino in 2016.
Montoya is widely known by the nickname “La Capi” because of how often she has captained Colombia.
She scored Colombia’s first-ever goal at a FIFA Women’s World Cup during the 2015 tournament against Mexico.
Her goal against Mexico at the 2015 Women’s World Cup was described by BBC Sport as one of the best goals of the tournament.
Montoya publicly criticized the Colombian Football Federation over unpaid bonuses after the 2015 World Cup.
She won a gold medal with Colombia at the 2019 Pan American Games.
In a FIFA interview, she described Brazilian football as more intense and faster than Colombian football.
