Edna Imade is a Spanish footballer of Nigerian origin who represents the Spain women’s national team at senior level; she was born in Morocco to Nigerian parents and acquired Spanish nationality before her first senior call-up.
She has Nigerian citizenship but was born in Morocco.
Her mother made a brave journey across the Sahara and arrived in Morocco while pregnant, eventually reaching Spain by boat to seek a better future for her children.
Edna and her twin brother were born during this journey, and she has grown up entirely in Spain, identifying strongly with Andalusian culture.
She is pursuing Spanish citizenship and hasn't yet decided if she wants to represent Nigeria or Spain.
She is deeply affected by racism, saying it hurts when people shut her out “just because of her race.”
She’s also vocal about gender inequality in football, frustrated that most kids don’t recognize female stars like Jenni Hermoso, despite wearing Messi shirts.
She she started playing football with boys' teams at the age of six.
She scored nearly 100 goals in just two seasons of indoor football with Nervión in the second Andalusian women’s division.
