Hannah Stambaugh is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for NWSL club Angel City FC.
She began her elite soccer journey at JFA Academy Fukushima at just 12 years old.
Stambaugh helped Japan win their first-ever FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup title in 2018.
She grew up in Fussa, Japan, with an American military dad and a Japanese mom, giving her a multicultural upbringing near a U.S. Air Force base.
She has been learning English to better integrate and communicate with teammates and fans in the U.S.
Her proudest soccer moment? Winning the 2018 U-20 Women’s World Cup with Japan—after going from second-string to starting goalkeeper mid-tournament.
She initially considered number 87 (a play on "Hana" in Japanese) but chose number 1 to symbolize her aspirations and potential.
