Isabel Rocío Ortiz Cañiza is a Paraguayan footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. She has represented Paraguay at both youth and senior international level, including the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and the senior national team.

Did You Know?

She is the daughter of former Paraguayan goalkeeper Adalberto Ortiz, who played for clubs including Cerro Porteño, Libertad, Nacional and Olimpia.

Football runs deep in her family. Ortiz said that as a child she watched her father, brothers and relatives play and wanted to become a goalkeeper herself.

Her mother initially did not allow her to train in football. Ortiz later explained that she started playing only after receiving permission and first played as an outfield player before moving into goal.

She made her first-division debut at just 15 years old.

She represented Paraguay at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France.

In 2022 she joined Sampdoria, becoming the first Paraguayan woman footballer to play in Italy’s Serie A Femminile according to Paraguayan reporting at the time.

One of the matches she remembers most was a Copa Libertadores Femenina game against River Plate, where she felt she delivered one of the strongest performances of her career.
