Melissa Anne Barbieri (also known as Melissa Hudson) is an Australian goalkeeper who plays for Melbourne City FC in the A-League Women. She has previously captained the Australian national team.
She wants to become a female lead commentator and “take down another obstacle” after her playing career.
She fell in love with football because of a voice: Sean Connery narrating the 1982 World Cup documentary G’ole.
She uses visualisation as part of her match-day routine, imagining herself making good decisions and performing well.
She also has Italian roots.
Growing up, she supported the Italian national team, and her childhood heroes were goalkeeper Dino Zoff and striker Paolo Rossi.
She got married in 2007 and she's had two children - born in 2013 and 2016.
Her nickname is "Bubs."
She's also an assistant coach at Melbourne City.
In 2008, she played for Richmond SC’s men’s side, and became the first female to play in Australia’s semi-professional men’s league.
