She began playing on boys’ teams before moving to Bangor Ladies when age restrictions meant she could no longer continue in the same setup.

Ashley Hutton, Rachel Furness and Simone Magill were among the experienced Northern Ireland players she looked up to while coming through the international set-up.

She balanced her studies at South Eastern Regional College with playing international football for Northern Ireland.

McKenna has helped promote girls’ football back home, including visiting Kilcooley Primary School in Bangor as part of an Irish FA participation drive.
