Claudine Falonne Meffometou Tcheno, known as Falone Meffometou, is a Cameroonian defender for FC Fleury 91 in France’s top flight and a long-time international for the Cameroon women’s national team.
She has represented the Cameroon Lionesses at the Olympics, multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, and two FIFA Women’s World Cups.
She was born in Lafé-Baleng in western Cameroon and is frequently described in local media as one of the community’s most prominent football exports.
She is a mother and took a formal maternity break from football, with club and federation backing, before returning to competition after giving birth to her daughter in May 2021.
On 29 December 2023 she married her long-time partner David Fernandez, who is also the father of her daughter, in a traditional ceremony in Baleng at the end of the year.
She has spoken openly about combining motherhood and elite football, saying “before being footballers, we are first and foremost women” and that becoming a mother has changed her life, how she sees things and how she behaves.
