Gemma Bonner is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Women's Super League club Liverpool, and appeared for the England national team.
Gemma Bonner is inspired by her mother, Anne, who has been paralyzed for over 40 years but remains strong and selfless. Anne's resilience and positivity significantly influence Gemma's approach to life and her career.
As a child she was a fan of Leeds Rhinos rugby league and was influenced by players like Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow, whom she met through school coaching sessions. Their humility and interest in her football progress inspired her from a young age.
She was kicking a ball ever since she could walk, played through school and joined Leeds when she was 7 years old.
Away from the football pitch she enjoys gaining experience with some punditry and football analysis working with LFC TV across the womens, mens and academy teams.
She gets involved in Charity work and giving back to the community. She has particularly close connection with the Motor Neurone Disease Association in trying to raise funds and awareness.
She has a BSC degree in Sports Studies.
She became Liverpool captain at only 20 years old and led the team to win two league titles.
She became the record appearance holder for Liverpool women's team with her 135th game.
She was honored by having a dressing room named after her at the men's Academy in Kirkby, recognizing her achievements as a former two-time League Title-winning captain and record appearance holder. It makes Bonner the first female player to receive such an honor, joining legends like Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler.
Her idols growing up were Katie Chapman and Fara Williams.
If she were not a footballer she would like to be a nurse.
When she lived in the US her favorite food was KFC.
