Lumi Kostmayer

Lumi's first name means “snow” in Finnish

She was born in Danbury, Connecticut, and grew up in nearby Southbury.

Her mother, Sirpa, is Finnish, and Lumi spent most of her summers in Finland, which she describes as her second home.

Her football family includes her parents, Sirpa and John, and her sibling Kai.

Before choosing Finland, she had already represented the United States in youth international football, including at U16 level.

She joined New York Soccer Club and committed to Stanford, a university she had reportedly viewed as her dream destination from a young age.

She graduated from Stanford with a degree in Public Policy before continuing her football journey.
